Applications for grants by the Facility Investing for Employment can be submitted from 15 May 2024.
The Facility Investing for Employment will launch sector-open competition rounds in Ghana, Morocco, Rwanda, and Senegal. The Facility is looking for projects that create a significant number of jobs that give access to social security systems.
From 15 May to 1 July 2024, companies as well as public and non-profit organisations can submit investment proposals. From purely private sector projects to public infrastructure projects, the Facility awards grants of between EUR 650,000 and EUR 6 million euros per project proposal. The amount of the grant depends on the project and country. It is essential that each proposed investment project contributes to sustainable job creation in the private sector and that the jobs give access to comprehensive social benefits.
The grant amount per job created must not exceed EUR 10,000. Projects that contribute to the promotion of women’s employment or to the socially just transition to a climate-friendly economy have a better chance of receiving a grant.
The Calls for Proposals in the countries mentioned above seek applications for four types of investment projects:
- Not-for-profit projects with job creation impact (no revenues):
IFE covers up to 90% of the investment costs.
- Not-for-profit projects with job creation impact (generating revenues):
IFE covers up to 75% of the investment costs.
- For-profit projects with broader job creation impact:
IFE covers up to 35% of the investment costs.
- For-profit projects with job creation impact:
IFE covers up to 25% of the investment costs.
The projects are selected in a two-step process. The Facility only finances mature projects that have not yet started and that offer reasonable chances for being operationally and financially sustainable. Applicants are obliged to contribute own funds to complete the project finance. They must also prove that they cannot cover their funding needs from other sources.
Companies as well as public and non-profit organisations can submit concept notes online as soon as the Calls for Proposals open.
The Facility Investing for Employment is an investment mechanism created by KfW Development Bank on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as an integral part of the Special Initiative "Decent Work for a Just Transition".
General information on the application process is available on our website.
The competition criteria and the dates of the online information sessions are published in the Key Information Sheet and the Guidelines for Applicants. Both documents will soon be made available in the Download Center.
