With the support from Invest for Jobs, Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited has opened its garment manufacturing facility, which is set to become West Africa's leading apparel manufacturing hub.
Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited was officially commissioned by President John Dramani Mahama in northern Ghana. This milestone has been realised with support from Invest for Jobs, showcasing how German Development Cooperation is enabling job creation, inclusion and sustainable industrial growth in Ghana.
Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited officially commissioned its textile and garment manufacturing hub on 28 August 2026, in Savelugu (near Tamale), Northern Region of Ghana. The event was attended by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Frederik Landshöft, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ghana, the Honourable Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, Ministers of State, Amelie Stanzel Ferreira, Country Director of KfW Development Bank (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau), and Sandra Retzer, Country Director of GIZ Ghana.
Spanning 200,000 m², the facility is potentially West Africa's largest apparel production hub. The commissioning of the facility was made possible through significant financial and technical support from Invest for Jobs, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and KfW's Investing for Employment (IFE) facility on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Following its initial engagement with GIZ in 2020, Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited was referred to KfW where it successfully secured an IFE grant that helped finance the construction of the factory. Invest for Jobs continues to provide advisory and technical support in areas including factory layout, social compliance certification, disability inclusion and market access, enabling Northshore to reach this milestone. This reflects a clear example of complementarity between German Development Cooperation partners.
Ghana's Textile and Apparel sector currently employs an estimated 10,000 workers, with the potential to grow to between 50,000 and 150,000 jobs over the next five years. Once fully operational, Northshore Apparel is expected to create over 10,000 decent jobs, with at least 70 per cent of the workforce comprising women, positioning the company as a competitive supplier to leading international apparel brands and retailers producing sportswear, lifestyle apparel, workwear and medical scrubs.

A key highlight of this support has been its focus on inclusion. Invest for Jobs and Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited are working together to support the training and employment of about 100 deaf persons through the Signs of Success project at the facility by the end of the year, an initiative that will also produce training materials for the future employment of deaf persons across Ghana's textile and apparel industry.
The commissioning of this facility marks a defining moment for Ghana's textile and apparel industry, showcasing the impact of sustained German and Ghanaian development cooperation in driving industrialisation, job creation, and inclusive growth. As Northshore Apparel Ghana Limited moves toward full operations, it stands as a model for how strategic partnerships between government, development agencies, and the private sector can transform local economies; creating opportunities not just for workers, but for a more inclusive and competitive future for Ghana's apparel sector on the global stage.
