Our contribution to a socially

For a sustainable African economy

In Africa, as elsewhere in world, the private sector is facing a transformation of huge proportions as it strives for climate neutrality by mid-century. At the same time, the socio-political challenge of ensuring that this transition is socially just must be met.

In line with the just transition approach, we seek to combine climate and environmental protection with the creation of good jobs. To do so, we promote investments by companies that create employment in environmentally relevant areas, such as the renewable energy, e-mobility and recycling sectors. In addition, we support companies from all sectors of the economy in establishing digital, sustainable and resource-efficient business models. We also provide targeted support for the initial and ongoing development of essential skills, such as technical expertise. Together, we can thus create future-proof jobs and company structures in our partner countries.

The government of Senegal wants to increase the share of renewable energies to 30 percent by 2025 and is focusing primarily on the expansion of wind and solar energy. However, the country still lacks sufficiently trained technicians to implement this plan. With the support of Invest for Jobs, the Senegalese company ENERGECO, which among other activities sells and installs solar systems, is investing in the training of skilled workers for the expansion of renewable energies. This creates good jobs on the local level.

ENERGECO will set up a private vocational training centre in Dakar under the name "Green Energy Training Centre" (GETC). On the curriculum: Renewable energies and energy efficiency, tailored to the Senegalese labour market. The courses will be designed for young people at the beginning of their professional careers and for professionals in need of further training. Graduates will subsequently have very good job prospects with ENERGECO and other companies - and will thus help to push forward the expansion of renewable energies in Senegal.
